News IMDEX releases xFORM multifunctional drilling fluids range

IMDEX global field trials demonstrate efficient and environmentally-friendly drilling fluid performance
IMDEX has officially launched its new generation of advanced multifunctional drilling fluids, xFORM, following strong performance results from extensive global field trials.
Designed to optimise drilling efficiency, reduce environmental impact and simplify compliance, xFORM D+ and xFORM L+ are now available across all IMDEX sales regions.
“xFORM simplifies mud program execution,” said IMDEX Chief Commercial Officer Shane Plant. “It delivers a single, safe, reliable and high-performing fluid that improves drilling performance, streamlines site management, and reduces reliance on multiple products.”
At a trial site in Africa, a customer using four different drilling additives switched to xFORM L+, a single additive fluid, and reported a 20% increase in metres drilled per shift and a 10% improvement in bit life. The switch to xFORM L+ also eliminated the use of hazardous chemicals and petroleum hydrocarbons, improving safety and sustainability outcomes.
“Unlike traditional programs, which often require three to five separate additives, xFORM products provide an efficient, all-in-one solution,” said Shane. “With no hazardous materials or petroleum hydrocarbons, it streamlines inventory, reduces administrative complexity and enhances QHSE compliance, all while improving performance.”
In the United States, a customer facing difficult drilling conditions and poor core recovery moved from a five-additive mud program, including soda ash, bentonite, fluid loss polymer, encapsulator and lubricator, to one product, xFORM D+. Over the course of the xFORM D+ trial, the customer saw core recovery jump to 95% from 40%, drill rates improve by 138%, and the time spent tripping for bit changes or having stuck rods decrease by over 70%. These results formed part of a comprehensive IMDEX Managed Services contract in which IMDEX collaborated with drill crews in numerous areas of optimisation including fluids monitoring, training and the support of other IMDEX solutions.
